Anthony is 80 year’s old. He lives by himself in his own home. He spends most of his time in front of the TV watching his favorites programs like, football, baseball, and car racing. I’ve know him for about six years and his situation breaks my heart. Anthony reminds me of my own grandfather, and I would like to share this small story with the group.
Anthony is from the island of Malta, a small island in the Mediterranean Sea. He came to United States of America, like most of us, to look for a better future for his family. He raised eight kids and they live in the United States but none of them live near him in Florida. I visit him once a day to check on him and spend some quality time with him. I even watch stuff with him that I don’t even like, but the point is that he feels someone is there talking to him. When he gets sick, or does not feel well enough to cook, I will cross my fence and start cooking for him. Once in a while I will do some errands for him, for example going to the store to buy groceries. When he has appointment with his doctor, I will drive him too. I’ll fix his remote control when it not working, buy chlorine for his pool, etc… If something breaks or stops working, he calls me because he knows he can count on me anytime.
It is important to care about someone, even if it isn’t your own family. You would be proud of yourself when you do help someone, like Anthony. I am pretty sure there are many Anthony’s out there facing the same loneliness. Please, make a difference in someone life’s.
