We are well on our way to changing the world; even if its just our own for now.

D
uring our first meeting, the Founder [Houston Kraft] brought 14 doughnuts, which were given out to the people who first took the iniative to come. Another 14 were brought to be given out randomly to people they wouldnt normally speak with.

The following meeting, packets of clever compliments were given to each person, who were again assigned to go into the cafeteria and find people who could use a little early morning encouragement. Since then, every week includes a Random Act of Kindness that encourages RAKErs to meet new people and make their day with something new each time.

Winter Wishes Week: a week designed to inspire kids to wish for themselves and others. Over a period of just 2 days we gathered nearly 400 wishes for items $5 or under (some of them being free acts of kindness). Thanks to local businesses like Starbucks, Safeway, The Snohomish Bakery, and Snoho Mojo, we were able to grant almost 300 wishes with donation money and a grant from our ASB. My favorite wish came from a Lunch Lady eating breakfast whom I gave a "Wish Slip" to. She gave it back to me with the Wish filled in for 'a rose for each of the Lunch Ladies with the "from:" being The Students. There are plenty of other examples if you would like to hear them. =]

In the meeting before officially starting Winter Wishes Week, a stack of paper, a roll of string, and a bin of scissors were present to take RAKE members back to the mindset of 1st Grade. We all made SNOWFLAKES and hung them around the cafeteria, transforming our Winter Wishes booth into a Winter Wonderland.

Morning Greetings. has been a success! Every Monday or Friday, about 10-20 RAKErs come to school 30 minutes early and wait for students by the buses and parking lot. We introduce ourselves individually to random people and greet them with candy canes, lollipops, or other fun items. Its all about discovering new people and making their day.
Some other ideas in the near future for our RAKE program include:
~The Smiley Committee [bright, smiley t-shirts worn biweekly to encourage positive attitudes] in conjuction with the Hall of Happiness [an area dedicated to high fives, hugs, and Random Acts of Kindness]
~Gentlemens Week [a week long event encouraging all men to dress nicely, bring flowers, hold doors open, and carry books for young women]
~Food Drive alongside our ASB Leadership Class
~Booster Shots [compliment cards with small gifts given out randomly during lunches]
~Plenty of other random acts!!
