Celebrating National Nurses Appreciation Week: Honoring Heroes in Healthcare
This week, from May 6th to May 12th, we celebrate National Nurses Appreciation Week, an annual event dedicated to recognizing the contributions of nurses across the globe. It's an opportunity to acknowledge the dedication, care, and expertise that nurses bring to their professions, impacting all of our lives in countless ways daily.

Honoring the Legacy of Florence Nightingale

Nurses Appreciation Week culminates on May 12th, coinciding with the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing.

Her birthday is a poignant reminder of the origins of nursing as we know it today—a profession characterized by kindness & compassion, dedication, and a commitment to patient care.

Join Us in Celebrating Nurses

This week, let’s take a moment to appreciate the nurses in our communities. Whether they are school nurses, hospital nurses, or nurses in other healthcare settings, their commitment to health and care is something to be admired and celebrated.

Here are five thoughtful ways to show appreciation for nurses during Nurses Appreciation Week:

  1. Deliver Care Packages - include items like hand lotion, lip balm, small snacks, and may even a coffee shop gift card.
  2. Public Acknowledgement - use community boards, social media, or local newspapers to highlight stories of exceptional nursing care.
  3. Organize a Meal Delivery to a Nurses Station - arrange to have a meal delivered to a nursing station. Don’t forget to include school nurses!
  4. Write a Note of Appreciation - most of us have experienced the incredible kindness of a nurse during a routine office visit, an unpleasant office visit or an otherwise unexpected office visit. Take a moment to write a note of appreciation to that individual and send it to them.
  5. Compliment Cards - Collect cardstock or colorful paper and write a personalized compliment or message. Hand deliver the cards to the recipients or leave them in places where they'll be found, such as on desks, in mailboxes, or on car windshields

Let’s make Nurses Appreciation Week a memorable occasion.

To all nurses, we say thank you for your service, your compassion, and your unyielding commitment to fostering healthier communities around the world.
